film directing
“Lungs” short film

In terms of my more hands-on film-related experience, as part of my recent MA degree (obtained in 2020), I have written a screenplay for my first short film titled “Lungs” (www.lungsfilm.com), which I’ve also produced and directed myself. The film is now in the festival round this season and will be released online next year.
Thanks to completing an MA degree in film as well as a number of low-budget projects I have worked on in my spare time, I have extended knowledge about the film pre-production process and working with actors, and I know the basics of cinematography and video editing. Directing actors is my huge passion, and I am planning to direct another film in the future, as I find working with actors fascinating and rewarding. Combining psychology knowledge with directing techniques is a great playground for experimentation. My favourite film genres are psychological thrillers and experimental films. I also know rehearsing and improvisation techniques.

working on film set
I have experience in working on film sets, mainly the volumetric capture set, and also virtual production and traditional film sets in the studio and on location. I can work in a number of roles and with a number of different cameras and video equipment and know the basics of A/V routing setups. I also have an understanding on the film lexicon used during film productions. I’ve worked as a film director, writer and producer on my short film “Lungs” and in the roles of VFX supervisor and Virtual Production content operator on the VFX shoots. You can find more about my VFX work in volcap and 3d sections.

Cara Evans – Production Designer
I worked with Adrianna on the pre-production of her short film “Lungs” as the production designer. I found her drive for the visuals in the film really inspiring. Upon starting the project she had created mood boards and character summaries which really helped explain her vision. The eras, colour palettes, fabrics and atmosphere she wanted to create were all clearly shown, this was something she added and worked upon throughout the process. When ideas evolved they were accompanied by new visual references which really helped our communication. Furthermore, we went on a research trip to the National Portrait Gallery to look at the Pre-Raphaelite paintings in exhibit to further investigate colour, costume and tone of the film as well as a recce to the forest we would be shooting in. By doing this together it both showed her commitment to the piece and the visual world of the film but it also made communicating together easier as we would be working from the same visual references and lived experience. Had the film not been postponed due to Covid-19 we would have gone on to finalise this process by storyboarding the film in further detail together.
Really strong images that are very evocative and help communicate tone and proposed shots throughout the piece. It clearly shows the progression you want in tone, texture and abstraction throughout the piece and will make going forward as a team much easier and harmonious as we will be able to use this easily as a reference point.
To make things clearer I would consider that some of the slides have very contrasting images (either in content or tone) so it may be worth organising them or adding notes or a separate explanation prior to sending so we know which images to go off for tone and which for composition. But overall really informative, clear and beautifully presented.
